‘Only difference of opinion, no groupism in TNCC’
TNCC president EVKS Elangovan is an eternal optimist. As far as he is concerned there is no groupism in the state unit other than differences of opinion among party leaders. He says that everything in the party is going smooth despite media reports that the Chidambaram camp was planning to complain about the party’s poor show in the recent election. Excerpts from a one-on-one interview with him.

Chennai
What is your reaction to reports about Chidambaram camp’s plan to complain to the top brass about party winning only 8 of the 41 seats it contested and where only one of your 25 supporters won?
There is no groupism in the TNCC. It is only difference of opinion among party leaders. In fact, groupism, if it can be so called is less in the Congress when compared to other parties. There is also no truth in my supporters winning or losing. All who contested were party candidates.
What will your party’s strategy be in Assembly?
As an ally of the DMK, we will offer issue based support whenever problems related to the people are raised in the House.
Similar to the amity between the Congress and the BJP outside Parliament, can such behaviour be expected in Tamil Nadu?
I wish a similar situation exists here also. I welcome DMK Treasurer MK Stalin wishing Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on her party’s victory and the latter reciprocating it. I hope a salubrious climate will prevail inside the House too.
Tamil Nadu BJP president Tamilisai Soundararajan had challenged the Congress to contest alone in the local body polls to prove its strength. Your comment:
We are now an ally of the DMK and will continue to be so. However, when the local body polls come around in a few months, a decision will be taken on whether to go it alone or to continue the alliance with DMK.
