Revaluation takes up lion’s share of fees: AU

In the semester exam conducted for students of Anna University affiliated engineering colleges during April/May 2015, the university evaluated 50,87,552 answer scripts and received applications for revaluation of 1,60,661 answer sheets from students, which is about 3.15 per cent of total answer sheets evaluated.

The percentage of number of scripts revaluated has come down from 11.11 per cent during November/December 2011 semester exam to 3.2 per cent in April/May 2015 exam.

Dr. G V Uma, controller of examinations at Anna University, said that even though students pay Rs. 700 to get photocopy of their answer sheets and apply for revaluation per answer paper, the university spends 70 per cent of the money for various purposes, including remuneration for faculty to evaluate answer sheets, evaluators’ travel allowance, salary for daily wage employees, transport expense and courier charge to send photocopy of student answer sheets to colleges.

“The number of applications for revaluation has come down after university changed the procedure two years ago,” Dr Uma added.

According to the revised process, students need to get photocopy of their answer sheets, after his/her faculty checks it and recommend for revaluation, students can submit application for revaluation to the university.

“As we have more engineering students in our state and all engineering colleges are affiliated to a single university — Anna University, we think the number is high. But if we have several universities which have these colleges affiliated under them, the number would have been much less,” a faculty member said on condition of anonymity.
