Rain continues to lash Kanniyakumari district
For the third continuous day rain continued to lash several parts of Kanniyakumari district and there was inundation in a few low-lying residential areas and temples on Friday.

As the rain continued even in the morning Kanniyakumari Collector, Sajjan Singh Chavan, announced a holiday for all educational institutions in the district. But many students had gone to their schools as information did not reach them in time.
Owing to the heavy rain some of the famous tourist spots in the district remained closed on Friday too. The ferry service to Vivekananda Rock and Tiruvalluvar statue was suspended and Tirupparapu falls was closed for taking bath for the third day. The water from the falls was seen falling at the children’s park nearby.
Owing to heavy rain the levels in rivers such as Kothai, Kuzhithurai and Suseendhiram went up and most bridges at the road level have submerged. Even transport to some of the remote villages was cut off due to submersion of bridges. Palamor in Kanniyakumari district received the highest rainfall with 73.2 mm. Water levels in some of the dams raised rapidly.
Mukkadal dam, which supplies water to Nagercoil town, saw a rapid increase of six feet on a single day. Even Manimutharu dam in Tirunelveli district witnessed heavy rain and the level increased considerably. Bathing was banned in Manimutharu falls but in Courtallam falls the tourists were allowed to take bath where the situation is under control.
