TNCC has sought the field report after losers started playing the blame game, a few even going to the extent of accusing ally party DMK. DT Next has reliably learnt that TNCC has received reports from 10 candidates thus far. Curiously, more than the report, it was the reasons cited by the losers that might baffle Sathyamurthy Bhavan.

One losing candidate this paper interacted with had attributed his failure to money. “If only we had spent as much as the AIADMK and DMK did, we would have won ten more seats. AICC gave us only Rs 25 lakh (Rs 5 lakh and Rs 20 lakh in two instalments) per candidate. They spent in crores. We were found wanting,” revealed a candidate in Chennai region requesting anonymity. He also alleged that the Rs 50 lakh per Congress seat given by the DMK leadership did not reach him.

Echoing his views, another Congress candidate from northern Tamil Nadu alleged, “DMK high command gave the money to its district secretaries to spend for Congress candidates. But most of the money did not reach us,” another Congress candidate from northern Tamil Nadu alleged.

“People in Anna Arivalayam may have thought that their district secretaries would spend for us, but there is a difference between a DMK district secretary spending for his party and Congress candidates,” the loser reasoned. The TNCC is planning to consolidate all the candidates’ reports, and if necessary, send them to the AICC, senior TNCC sources said.
