3 students from districts share top spot in medical rank list
Aadithya Mahesh MV, from Vilavancode in Kanyakumari district secured the first rank in the rank list released for the government’s Single Window counselling for MBBS/BDS courses this year on Friday. The first phase of counselling will start on June 20 and end on June 25.

This year the trio of Aadithya Mahesh, Vignesh V from Thiruvaiyaru (Thanjavur district) and Gnanavel EJ belonging to Pallipat (Thiruvallur district), all scored 200 out of 200. Vignesh has been ranked second and Gnanavel, third. Aadithya is a student of Carmel Girls Higher Secondary School in Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Vignesh pursued Class 12 at Ideal Higher Secondary School, Erode and Gnanavel studied at Sri Chaitanya Junior College, Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh).
State Health and Family Welfare Minister C Vijaya Baskar released the rank list for medical counselling on Friday. Twenty students scored 199.75 cut-off this year. Additional director of medical education and secretary of selection committee G Selvarajan said that the rank list of students had been uploaded onto “www.tnhealth.org” website where candidates could check the rank they had secured.
The tentative seats available in 20 government medical colleges in the state are 2,650 MBBS seats, of which 397 seats (15 per cent), would be allotted under All India quota. Tamil Nadu has six private medical colleges with 760 seats (including 290 for management quota), two ESIC medical colleges with 100 seats (including 35 seats each for All India quota) each.
The state has a total of 28 medical colleges with 3,610 seats, of which 2,853 are under the Tamil Nadu state quota. As many as 26,017 students registered for the state counselling for MBBS/BDS this year out of which 25,379 were considered eligible to attend counselling. Girl aspirants (16,361) are higher than boys (9,017) this year.
A transgender candidate too had applied. A total of 23,966 medical aspirants are from Tamil Nadu state board, 1,158 (CBSE), 129 (ISCE) and 126 (others). About 3,266 students who had completed class 12 in previous years have also applied this year and 9,401 candidates are first generation graduates.
