The crowds of cadre lining the roads brought vehicular movement to a standstill for hours, inconveniencing commuters all along the stretch from Poes Garden to the party headquarters. Office goers were held up at a number of points like the Music Academy traffic junction, Gopalapuram and Royapettah.

Besides this, music troupes, mainly drummers and Nadaswaram players, also performed on the roads near Hotel My Fortune adding to the sound of blaring horns. Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar was also spotted among a group of cadre waving flags and greeting party workers.

It was a sea of human heads all through the way. Auditor C Bhaskaran who was caught in the traffic and was late for a meeting, said, “We should be warned about such events so we can plan our work accordingly.”

Environmentalist and activist KC Krishnan, who was also caught in traffic near Lloyds Road, added, “It’s good that there are no flexes or cut-outs erected, but the government should check the environmental waste caused by green banana saplings and palm leaves that have been used for this meet.”
