As per the instructions of Director General of Civil Aviation, flying drones are banned in the country until such time as it frames the guidelines for allowing unmanned air borne vehicles. A patrol vehicle from Mylapore police station spotted the drone in Kapali Nagar area and traced the person who was operating it. Police took both the drone and the youth into custody.
Police said Premarajan had been arrested on an earlier occasion for the same offence in the same area. “Since it is a bailable offence, nobody takes the ban seriously. Drones are not permitted as per DGCA order and there is no question of operating it with permission,” a senior police official said.
Premarajan told the police that the drone was sent to him by his friend based in the US and he was taking it for a test flight. The last time Premarajan was caught for flying a drone, he said he had he brought it for use in marriages and other events.
