Diff-abled boy gets engineering seat
Being physically challenged has not deterred M Venkatesan, a student from B. Pallipatti in Pappireddipatti in Dharmapuri district from applying for an engineering seat under the differently abled persons’ category in the government’s single window counselling for engineering colleges (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions-TNEA) this year.

Venkatesan, who scored 891 out of 1,200 marks in Class 12 studied in Stanley Matriculation Higher Secondary school, Pappireddipatti, and scored a cut-off of 146.75 in TNEA this year.
“My Physics teacher in school Pradeep Kumar helped me a lot by motivating me and the way he taught the subject increased my interest in the subject,” Venkatesan, son of a daily wage earner, said.
Venkatesan says that he had opted for computer science engineering in Government Engineering College, Dharmapuri. “As computer science engineering has good scope, I had opted for the course,” he said.
Venkatesan has also applied for B.Sc (Agriculture) programme in the counselling to be conducted by Tamil Nadu Agriculture University.
P Murugan, his father, said that he had funded Venkatesan’s school education with
great difficulty.
Speaking to reporters, TNEA secretary J Indumathi said that during the counselling for sports persons held on Friday, there were 500 seats in that category, of which 352 seats got filled and the remaining would be included duirng academic general counselling which starts on June 27.
“There are over 5,000 seats available in the differently abled persons’ category and 221 students were called to attend the counselling today,” she said.
Application for B.Arch: Students who aspire to join Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) programme can apply online (www.annauniv.edu/ tnea2016) this year from June 25. The last date for registration of application is July 4.
