A scientific belief is that the built environment shapes our social behaviour and business growth. Have we ever questioned whether the built environment is giving us the required healthy life and good economic value? Planners and architects shape that built environment. Unfortunately, India does not rank in top 50 best places to live. Built environment should cater to the needs of its residents with an eco-friendly, hygienic, safe, secure and tranquil place to live. Such built environments can be developed only by systematic and progressive design and engineering. The architect who is trained to bring design and engineering together needs to have such training and moulding to shape our built environment.

Architecture is one of the few careers that offers that pleasure of shaping many people’s lives and prosperity. And good architecture adds value to the essence of society and lifestyle. The present day business world requires you to be equipped with entrepreneurship qualities as well. A degree that provides such multi-skill training is the need of this decade. An architect with great entrepreneurship skills or an Archipreneur can look forward to a fruitful career in this line of work.

An architect who shapes built environments, gets to learn their skills with a five-year rigorous training comprising of a wide range of subjects and a year of practical training. One gets to learn as many 15 different subjects including History and Theory of Architecture, Structural Engineering, Urban Planning and more.

Graduation not only moulds you to become an architect but also empowers you with a multi-skilled personality and good leadership values. The degree programme in architecture is a creative course with a year of training on improving your sketching, painting and drawings skills. For three years, you train and develop your ideas with the support of engineering and design subjects to help you understand the essence of built environments incorporating social, anthropology and environmental sensitivity. This education informs you that the earth breathes and that your actions impact the natural environment. Hence, a good education and solid foundation are a must in becoming an architect.

There are more than 90 colleges in Tamil Nadu providing the B Arch degree course. Getting into a right college is a challenge and it impacts your plan to have a progressive career. To choose the right college you need to do a good amount of research. The college should have the right number of teaching staff with years of experience and global exposure. The infrastructure should match up to national level colleges and comparatively to international standards. Ideally, choose a standalone college that does not share its resources and infrastructure facilities with other engineering departments, as such tactics deprive students of quality education.
