    Anna University top choice among NRIs

    The number of applications for B.E/B. Tech and M.Sc (five-year integrated) programmes under the children of Indian workers in Gulf countries (CIWGC)/ Non-Resident Indians (NRI)/Foreign Nationals (FN) categories at Anna University’s three campus colleges, including College of Engineering, Guindy, has increased from 305 last year to 362 this year.

    According to data provided by Anna University, the number of applicants in the NRI quota saw an increase from 115 in last year to 183 this year. The university received 33 applications for foreign nationals category last year whereas the number increased to 41 this year. There are 137 seats each available in College of Engineering, Guindy, Alagappa College of Technology (A.C. Tech) and Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) under this category. 

    The counselling for foreign nationals will take place on July 13 and candidates from other categories will attend counselling on July 14. Students who get admitted through this category need to pay US dollars 7,500 per year. Candidates who apply under this category should have passed Class 12 in the Indian system or its equivalent (completed 12 years of school education). 

    Career counsellor Jayaprakash Gandhi says that in the past several NRI students preferred top colleges in Karnataka and top deemed universities. “Chennai has become the hub not only for automobile sector but a few others too. So these students are now looking at Chennai as they will get more exposure in this city,” he said.
