Robotics gets thumbs-up from school students in the city
More than 100 school students from Chennai are set to create a record as they will be assembling their own robots and rallying it on the Marina beach on Sunday.

The students were trained at Kidobotikz, a Robotics training institute. “The initiative is also an effort to spread more awareness about the subject. People consider it a difficult subject but if initiated at a young age, kids can make their machines. In fact, these kids even created a robot to clean the beach,” says Sneha Priya, co-founder of the institute.
A team from ASSIST World Records Research Foundation (AWRRF) will be present at the venue to witness the event and declare the world record. “The kids have worked really hard to create and conceptualise the product. These robots will function both on the road and sand,” adds Sneha. Seven-year-old Raghav Ram Ganesh, one of the participants, will have his wireless robot up and running at the event.
“I made him join the class in 2015 just to keep him busy during weekends but he was surprisingly good at it. The knowledge of the subject helped him to give out practical solutions to problems,” says Swarna Ganesh, Raghav’s mother. Robotics has gained much popularity among students and many schools have introduced it as a subject for students.
Senthil Kumar, Director of Centre for Aerospace research, MIT campus, Anna University says, “Robotics encourages people to think out-of-the-box. Today kids are smart and if trained well, they can do wonders at an early age. For instance, we had a few school kids visiting our facility recently, where we spoke to them about drones. One of them asked while there is so much development in unmanned aerial vehicle space, there is not enough technology to rescue kids, who fall inside narrow bore wells. I was amazed at his thought process,” says Kumar.
