#SwathiMurder: How the Tamil Nadu police cracked the case
Eight days after the murder of techie Swathi the Tamil Nadu police have finally apprehended an engineering graduate Ramkumar, who the police consider a prime suspect and was hot on his trail.

DAY 1: JUNE 24: Infosys employee Swathi S was murdered by an unidentified assailant on Platform No 2 at the Nungambakkam railway station at 6.40 am. Her body unattended lay in a pool of blood for close to two hours.
DAY 2: JUNE 25: Police released the first CCTV clip showing the suspected killer recorded at a residence near the station.
DAY 3: JUNE 26: The second CCTV clip showing of the suspected murderer jumping off the railway station wall was released.
DAY 4: JUNE 27: Soon after the Madras High Court took suo motu cognisance of the case, it was transferred from GRP to Chennai Police, which in turn set up four investigation teams.
DAY 5: JUNE 28: Pressure mounted on police as they couldn’t get any headway in the case and politicians too visited Swathi’s parents.
DAY 6: JUNE 29: Police rushed to Paranur near Chengalpet on information that the murderer is hiding there. Number of investigation teams increased to 10 with 10 cops in each.
DAY 7: JUNE 30: Crucial information came about as the watchman of a bachelors’ mansion in Swathi’s neighbourhood told the investigating team that a guy looking similar to the latest CCTV image had been missing from the mansion for a week. Based on their info, police rushed to Tirunelveli.
DAY 8: JULY 1: Police arrested the murderer identified as Ramkumar in his hometown near Senkottai around 10 pm while attempting to kill himself.
