Speaking to the media persons, Swathi’s paternal uncle K Govindarajan who thanked Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and Tamil Nadu police who had acted swiftly and arrested the culprit, said, the accused should be produced before the court and given capital punishment. He appealed to the public to come forward and participate actively to prevent such occurrence in society. “We the public should come forward to thwart these offences that take place and we consider Swathi’s death as a sacrifice for women protection at the national level,” said Govindarajan.
Meanwhile, the family thanked those who personally visited them and consoled the family members. The family also thanked women organisations, social organisations, student unions, members from the IT sector, friends from social media, Tamil activists, NRIs and the press for their support. The Madras High Court has taken up the murder as a sumoto case.
In the meantime, the family members urged the state government to give moral education in schools so that it would help reduce crime, Govindarajan stressed.
Swathi’s maternal uncle A Mugundan appealed to everyone not to politicise the case. “Please look at it as a person to person issue and not as a political or any other forms”, he said. The family is to conduct rituals for two more days in Srirangam.
