Swathi’s father Sreenivasan and Siva Kumar, a shopkeeper, were taken to the prison early Tuesday morning by the police team and they have reportedly identified Ramkumar as the accused who hacked Swathi.

The prison authorities had lined up about 25 remand prisoners who had resemblance to Ramkumar for the identification parade and the witnesses are said to have picked Ramkumar from the crowd. Sources told DTNext that Swathi’s father had seen the youth when he was on his way to drop off his daughter at the station and she had complained about him being the one who stalked her.

The identification parade was conducted in the presence of the Saidapet 9th judicial magistrate Shankar and he had recorded the proceedings. The identification parade and subsequent identification of the accused by witnesses is an important evidence for the police to prove the charges against the accused. Now the police can move a petition for the custody of the accused for further investigation. Police sources said Ramkumar will be taken in police custody soon for further interrogation and evidence collection.
