Police arrested an engineering student Ezhilarasan, a resident of Madurantakam, a graduate Kamesh and their friend Devendran.

The accused have told the police that the victim had an illicit affair with the wife of one of their friends and when he continued the affair despite their warnings, they killed him.

A special police team tracked the accused after they recovered the body of a 25-year-old youth from a lake in Athur near Chengalpet on June 26. Police first registered a case of suspicious death and had kept the body as unidentified.

Later, during the post mortem of the victim, it was found out that the youth was murdered by strangulation. Police then circulated the photograph of the victim to all other police stations and identified him as Manikandan, a resident of Samathuvapuram, Enathur near Kancheepuram.

Manikandan was a daily wage labourer and his wife Dillirani identified the photograph as her husband’s and told the police he had been missing since June 26. Police then investigated the case and arrested the accused.

The men confessed they killed Manikandan after he failed to heed their warnings. Police said two more key accused in the case are absconding and a hunt is on to locate them.
