Thiruma’s bid to mend fences with DMK through Veeramani
That all is not well in the PWF (People’s Welfare Front) is no secret, but VCK, one of the major constituents, now seems less keen on ensuring the longevity of the alliance.

Chennai
It has been reliably learnt that the VCK has been sending feelers through common friends to share dais with the DMK top brass. Unofficially. A source in the know of things told this paper that VCK leader Thirumavalavan had asked Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) leader K Veeramani to organise a meeting of “like-minded” parties when the DMK had raked up the Sanskrit language row against the Modi regime vociferously a few weeks agp. Veeramani is understood to have played it safe by promising to get back on the request after some time.
It was only after this backdoor negotiation that Thirumavalavan had issued a statement generously appreciating former DMK chief minister for his critique of Modi regime’s Ganga jal scheme and promotion of Sanskirt language. Add Tiruma’s recent veiled criticism of the PWF he is part of, it is sufficiently understood that the Dalit party is having a strained relationship which one could equate with a failing matrimony. Though the rhetoric of Karunanidhi and Thirumavalavan give enough hints, there is no difficulty in comprehending from interactions with VCK inner circles that chances of them divorcing the PWF ahead of the ensuing civic polls is remote.
VCK might not be as blunt as Vasan’s TMC or Vijayakant’s DMDK, which has also showed enough signs of parting ways with PWF, but the imminent desertion by the Dalit party is something Vaiko and comrades should probably prepare for. Significantly, the timing would depend on the DMK, which at the moment, is a little reluctant to bury the hatchet with the erstwhile Dalit ally, for, it fears antagonising the intermediate caste votes in northern and western Tamil Nadu.
