Though the police initially registered a case of suspicious death, they started probing the case as a possible murder after a complaint from parents of the victim. A special team of railway police arrested Jagan Babu’s wife Ajitha and her paramour John Prince (25) on Friday.
Ajitha said she had married Jagan on the insistence of her sick father, but she never liked him. She came back to her boyfriend John Prince, her colleague at a hospital in Kelambakkam.
Ajitha conspired with John Prince to kill Jagan Babu so that they could be together. As per their plan, Prince met Jagan Babu, in Kumari introducing himself as Dr Chokalingam, a colleague of Ajitha. Then John and Jagan started to Chennai for a party to celebrate his wedding by Kanniyakumari Express. When the train reached Tiruchy, John told Jagan that he would take him by a car and the two men alighted and started walking along the tracks. John allegedly strangled Jagan to death, left his body near the tracks and escaped.
Police while checking Jagan’s phone records found repeated calls from Ajitha. This helped the cops crack the case.
