Parents, kids demand transfer of PU school teacher

Students of a panchayat union middle school from Thuraiyur in Tiruchy district on Monday approached the Collector to transfer a woman teacher from the institution, as she was busy carrying out personal works during class hours instead of taking classes.

The Class 4 students of the school at Venkadathanur along with their parents came to the Collectorate for the weekly grievance day meeting and levelled several allegations against their class teacher K Geetha. The children claimed that the teacher was irregular to the classes and was also not taking enough steps to ensure the safety of students. As a result some students often go out the classrooms during school hours and engage in petty fights.

The parents of the students claimed that they raised the issue in the educational committee meeting held in the school but in vain, as the headmistress did not take any action on the teacher.

It is alleged that Geetha has been serving as teacher in the same school at at Venkadathanur for the past four years. “If she continues to work in the school, the standard of the school and its reputation will be at risk and ultimately the future and safety of the children studying in the institution will be at stake,” the petition read.

Meanwhile, the parents have also approached the Assistant Elementary Education Officer (AEEO), when he visited the school on July 22, with their charges against the teacher. Further, the parents have also sent a copy of the petition submitted to the Collector on Monday to the AEEO.
