Homams mark Guru peyarchi
Thousands of devotees from various parts of the state offered worship at Arulmigu Abathsahayeswaraswamy temple, the ‘navagraha kshetra’ for ‘Guru bhagawan’ at Alangudi here on the occasion of Guru Peyarchi (Jupiter transit) on Tuesday.

Guru moved from Simma Raasi (Leo) to Kanni Raasi (Virgo) at 9.30 am amid chanting of vedic hymns by priests. According to legend Lord Guru Bhagavan or Lord Dakshinamurthy is one of the Nav agrahas (9 planets) and is referred to as the planet Jupiter, and Alangudi is one of the temples that has a shrine dedicated to the planet. Similarly, thousands of devotees thronged Sri Vasishteswaraswamy temple at Thittai near Thanjavur, where a separate temple for Guru Bhagawan exists. Ganapathy homam and Parihara homams were performed.
Special buses to Alangudi and Thittai from various parts of the State were plied on Tuesday. In Puducherry, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy and Speaker V Vaithilingam were among those who offered prayers at the shrine of Lord Dakshinamoorthy on the precincts of the Sithananda Swamigal temple in Karuvadikuppam village.
