Proceedings end abruptly as chaos reigns
Sloganeering, name-calling and sit-in protest, you name it, the state Assembly had it all on Wednesday, another day of high action and less transaction, as Speaker Dhanapal ended day’s proceedings abruptly.

Allowed to voice his views for a brief moment, Leader of Opposition M K Stalin attempted to respond to Muthiah, but only to witness his comments were expunged by the Chair subsequently. Though Dhanapal stopped Muthiah’s debate and asked minister Thangamani to reply to the debate, pandemonium continued in the House for the next 40 minutes as DMK members continued sloganeering in protest of the Speaker for expunging Stalin’s remark and duly recording Muthiah’s comments.
So chaotic was the House that at one point Dhanapal said, “Are you satisfied with calling me names? Will the leader of Opposition and deputy Leader of Opposition, who let their members insult me, cooperated and allow me to run the House smoothly now?” Realising that his request had gone unheeded by the Opposition, the Speaker abruptly wound up the proceedings and exited the House along with AIADMK MLAs, while the DMK MLAs observed a sit-in protest for five minutes till 2.14 pm. Emerging out of the Assembly, Stalin told reporters that the Speaker was ‘autocratic’.
