Staff held for heist in Nellai jewel shop
Cracking the case of a whopping heist of 10 kg gold from a jewellery shop at Ambasamudram in Tirunelveli district, Tiruneveli police on Monday arrested one of the employees of the shop. In the interrogation, the accused, Mohammed Ibrahim, is said to have confessed to have stolen jewels with the help of two other friends.

The burglary came to light on Sunday evening, when a friend of Syed Ibrahim, the supervisor of the jewellery shop, noticed that the shop remaining unlocked while passing by. He immediately informed Syed, who was staying at the first floor of the shop.
However, Syed noticed that the jewellery kept as showpieces were untouched. Growing suspicion, he opened the locker and found all 10 kilograms of jewels kept in it missing. Immediately he alerted Ambasamudram police.
As the locker was not broken open, police suspected that one of the employees could have been involved in the heist. As the CCTV cameras in the shop had also been stolen, police enquired the employees individually and found out that the accused Mohammed Ibrahim gave milk to Syed Ibrahim on Saturday night after which Syed became unconscious and slept till 9 am on Sunday.
Later, Mohammed Ibrahim admitted that he mixed excess sleeping pills in the milk given to Syed and had taken away the keys. Based on his confession, police arrested him and 9.5 kilograms of jewels were recovered from him. Two of his friends who had helped him in the burglary were also booked in the case and police are also in search of them.
