Police said the temple authorities came to know about the theft when the priest came to open the temple at 6.30 am on Saturday.

Police said all the idols were relatively new as the temple was built only about 18 months ago. Idols of Muruga, Anjaneyar, Siva, Parvati, Rama and Amman were stolen from the temple.

Police said the assailants seemed to have entered the temple premises after scaling the compound wall and broken the doors to lift the idols. Police said the temple had no CCTV cameras on its premises.

“We have been telling them to install CCTV cameras but they have not done it till date. We have registered a case and further investigations are on,” a police official attached to Sathankadu police station said.
