Chennai
Sources said that as the situation was getting serious, health department teams landed in the affected villages of Kaverirajapuram and Adi Andhrawada to monitor the situation.
Over the week, a number of children in Kaverirajapuram and Adi Andhrawada villages were down with fever. Two kids, Yuvaraj and Santhosh, both aged six, from Kaverirajapuram died a few days ago. On Saturday, Mohan (6) from Adi Andhrawada and Mohan Kumar (9) from Kaverirajapuram breathed their last at the Institute of Child Health, Egmore, on Saturday.
K Kolandaswamy, Director, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, said that control measures were being initiated.“Ten of them have been admitted to the Tiruvallur GH, RGGGH and the Egmore hospital. All of them are stable now. We suspect them to be cases of a combination of viral and bacterial infection and not a mystery fever as rumoured.” He added that camps have been set up to monitor the situation and stop further spread of the infection.
