Inquiry ordered against lawyer, inspector

Advocate Baskar Maduram in his petition filed at the HC Bench stated that the case filed against the five Dalit children under POCSO Act was a foisted one and no such incident had happened.

He also demanded the court to issue a direction to the police to cancel the case and take action against the Inspector for filing a false case. 

But, Public Prosecutor claimed that the incident happened and it was not a false case by the cops and demanded to dismiss the petition. After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the judge had asked the mediapersons to leave the court hall premises. 

Then, the judge after dismissing the petition of Baskar Maduram, directed the Bar Council of India to carry out an inquiry against Baskar to find whether the petition was a motivated one and granted six months to complete the process. 

Further, the court had also directed the Madurai SP to find out if it was a foisted case action and whether action should be recommended against the Inspector. 

It should be noted that five Dalit children including a girl, all below nine years, were booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly sexually harassing children from the dominant community earlier this month. 

While the caste Hindus claimed the ‘attack’ to be a preplanned one, Dalits in the region denied the accusations.
