According to the members, more than 25,000 people live in Amayapuram, Vengaikurichi and Palayakottai panchayats in Manapparai taluk and most of the residents are agricultural labourers and construction workers.

However, a Tasmac outlet (No 10400) which has been functioning at Othakadai which connects all the three panchayats, becomes busy right from the morning hours, due to its easy accessibility by these workers.

The members also allege that boozers, apart from throwing the empty liquor bottles on the road, lie unconscious on the roadside making the pavements inaccessible to women and children.

They allege that the number of boozers visiting the liquor shop has been on the rise due to proximity.

Since the petitioners came as a large group, they were denied entry into the Collectorate. Hence, they staged a sit-in protest near the northen gate and distributed pamphlets to the public.

Later, a few representatives were allowed and they submitted petition and subsequently, they disbursed.
