‘Iron Man’ embarks on Guinness record to iron 2,001 clothes in 101 hours
A city resident, who ekes out a living by ironing clothes, Daniel Surya embarked on ironing 2,001 clothes in 101 hours, spanning six days, in a bid to enter the Guinness book of records on Thursday.

Chennai Corporation Mayor Saidai Duraisamy launched the event at a popular shopping mall in the city. This is a first-of-its kind attempt and is aimed at a social cause. ‘Iron Man’ Daniel Surya is on a mission to spread awareness about eye donation in association with the Lions Clubs International. The feat, which began on Thursday, will continue till August 30.
The event is being telecast live with two mega LED screens, one inside the atrium and the other, facing the arterial Anna Salai. There will also be entertainment by celebrities as also lectures and informative talks on eye donation along with health camps like blood donation and diabetic retinopathy detection camps at the mall.
“During this five-day marathon, I intend to get promises from over one crore individuals for eye donation,” says Daniel. He wanted to do something unique to spread awareness about eye-donation and decided to carry out this feat.
According to a report by Lions Club, at present there are an estimated 15 million blind people in India. Of them, 4.5 million corneal blind were waiting for donors.
