On Monday, Vaaragi, a member of the artistes association came to the city Police Commissionerate and filed a complaint against the office bearers, accusing them of mismanaging over Rs 3 crore. He is said to have the backing of a few other members. A little later, Nasser, president of the Nadigar Sangam, responded in kind. He filed another complaint against the group, accusing them of causing trouble and also for defaming the Sangam.

The latest controversy in the  Nadigar Sangam started when  Vaaragi, also an RTI activist,  took on Nassar and his team on Saturday, accusing  them of swindling money amounting to over Rs 3 crore from the cricket tournament they conducted in April this year.

Speaking to DTNext, Vaaragi said, “Vishal-Nasser’s ‘Pandavar Ani’ team which last year accused the former office- bearers including Sarathkumar and his  team of corruption, is now lost for words. When asked to account for Rs 13 crore collected from the cricket match, they could not account for more than Rs 7 crore.”

Vaaragi also alleged that the office bearers threatened to ‘kill him.’

Refuting the allegations, Naasar told DTNext, “We all know who Vaaragi is and what  his track record is.” When asked about the death threat, he laughed it off and said, “The entire conversation was recorded and we can present a copy. We were aware that such things would crop up, so we have maintained clear records. When we asked him for the proof, he backed off and left the building immediately. So this is a defamation against the Sangam and we will face these allegations legally.”

Reacting to Nassar’s comments, Vaaragi said, “If they have a recorded clip, let them submit it without editing.”

Clearly, the stage is set for an interesting climax.
