8 years on, Taramani ‘misses’ link with road
The road widening work, which has been underway at Taramani Link Road for more than eight years, has left a narrow space for the road’s two-way traffic, causing massive congestions during peak hours. To bypass the block, vehicles are forced to take the bylanes, thus choking the entire residential area.

The Taramani Link Road connects Velachery to Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) and Tambaram. The storm water drain is to connect the Velachery lake and Buckingham Canal at Kotturpuram. Speaking of the ordeal, NS Ramani, a resident of Velachery who regularly uses this route, said the work has been going on for the past eight years. “As a result of this work, the road has become narrow and cannot accommodate the two-way traffic, especially during peak hours. There are many schools in this area and the traffic congestion is a huge inconvenience,” she said. Balakrishnan, General Secretary of Tansi Nagar Residents Welfare Association, said, “The traffic woes will worsen during the monsoon,” he added.
According to a Corporation official, “There is lack of coordination between the Highway sdepartment and Metro Water officials. Because of this, storm water drain work too is being delayed.”
