    City likely to receive rains for two more days

    According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, the city is likely to receive rainfall for another two days. While the morning is likely to be partly cloudy, rain or thunder shower is likely in most areas of the city late evening or night.

    On Thursday evening, many areas in the city like Anna Nagar, Redhills, Nungambakkam received heavy rainfall, flooding many roads, causing traffic jams.  The rains were, however welcomed by observers. “In August, Nungambakkam received only 44 mm of rain. On Thursday alone the region received 73 mm of rainfall. The city hasn’t received such heavy spell since the Southwest Monsoon started. 

    Areas like Anna Nagar, Perambur, Nungambakkam, Puzhal experienced cloudburst- like conditions. A lot of people were reminded of the December rains of last,” says weather blogger  Pradeep John. According to the TN Weatherman, until 8.30 am on Friday, Cholavaram Lake received 83 mm rain, Redhills Lake 75mm , Nunagambakkam 73 mm, Cholavaram Lake 83 mm, Puzhal 66 mm,  Avadi 63mm , Sriperumbudur 60mm, Ponneri 60mm, Poondi Lake 46mm  and DGP Office Marina 40 mm. Chennaiites can enjoy the respite from heat for a couple of days more. “The city is likely to receive more rains for another two days,” says a source from the Met department.
