Woman inspector’s suicide bid foiled inside Secretariat
In a shocking incident, a woman police inspector who was on duty at the Secretariat doused herself with kerosene and threatened to immolate herself inside the Assembly corridor on Friday, when the final session of the Assembly was underway.

Chennai
Kanchana (40), an inspector with the Tiruvotriyur All Woman Police Station reportedly came armed with a bottle of kerosene that she had brought surreptitiously inside the Secretariat complex. She is said to have gone into the restroom with the bottle of kerosene and doused herself with it. When she came out, her colleagues smelt the kerosene and quickly whisked her away before she could light a matchstick.
A detailed investigation is underway to know the reasons behind the attempt and the ease with which she managed to sneak in a bottle of kerosene to a high security area. The incident happened on the corridor of the Assembly, which is the VVIP passage from 4th gate. Sources told DTNext that Kanchana had a fight with the Tiruvotriyur law and order inspector over a parking issue on Thursday. However, the issue was later amicably settled.
Police said there could be some other reason behind the self-immolation bid. Police sources said they were investigating to see if some family issue could have caused the inspector to try and harm herself.
Vishnupriya case
Prior to Friday’s event the other case that made headlines was that of Vishnupriya, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tiruchengode. On Sept 17, 2015 she committed suicide. She was investigating the sensational murder of a Dalit youth, Gokulraj. There were allegations of harassment from senior officials that reportedly pushed the officer to committing suicide. It is being probed by CB-CID.
