According to K Thyagarajan, State president of the Tamil Nadu Asiriyar Munnetra Sangam, those who joined government service after 2004 have been placed under CPS and they would not be able to get the benefits the old pension scheme offered. “They can’t take interest-free loan from the provident fund,” he said.
Thyagarajan also said that several government employees and school teachers depend on their pension. “Keeping this in mind, we urge the state government to remove CPS and revert to the old pension scheme in the interest of government employees and teachers. We urge the committee constituted by the state government to expedite its process and submit the report at the earliest,” he said.
Sami Sathyamurthy, state president of the Tamil Nadu High and Higher Secondary School Headmasters’ Association, said that the Union government should not invest the employees’ provident fund money in the share market. “Various government employee associations and teacher associations have been representing their demand to the government in this regard for several years,” he added.
Meanwhile, the expert committee has invited various associations to hear their views on September 15.
