MLA assaults boathouse manager in Union Territory

Puducherry Tourism Development Corporation recently retrenched 240 employees including 25 licenced boat drivers. The retrenched employees gathered at the boathouse demanding their reinstatement. 

Being a Sunday, there was a heavy rush of tourists at the boat house and the manager asked the 24 “tourist guards” to drive the boats. However, they refused stating that they did not have licence and it would become a big issue in case of an accident.

In the meantime, the legislator came there and asked the tourist guards to take the boat and they refused. He then asked the manager to convince them to operate the boat and he also explained that they did not have licence to drive the boats. In the altercation that ensued, Anantharaman allegedly assaulted the manager and staff which led to tension.
