Tamil Nadu PWD team sent back from PAP

Public Works Department officials from Tamil Nadu were denied access to the Parambikulam dam by the Kerala forest officials on Saturday. A 12-member team from Pollachi and Chennai were made to wait for nearly 3 hours just a kilometre before the dam site and sent back without giving permission to visit the dam.

Maintenance works at the cost of Rs 40 crore were on at the three dams of Parambikulam, Peruvaripallam and Thunakkadavu in the Kerala forest range. The team went to review the works.

Of late, Kerala forest officials were frequently preventing the PWD officials from Tamil Nadu to freely visit the dams. On Saturday too, the Kerala forest officials stopped the 12-member team a kilometre ahead of the dam site and insisted that they must get special permission to proceed. All the reasoning of the PWD officials that it is just a customary review went unheeded. They were made to wait for nearly three hours till sunset and the PWD officials returned to the base disappointed. However, the team visited Peruvaripallam and Thunakkadavu dams without any hassles earlier in the day.
