Income Tax raids on premises of ex-Minister, jeweller and medical college
The Income Tax investigation department on Monday conducted raids at the establishments of former state minister Natham Viswanathan, noted diamond merchant Kirtilal Jain and a medical college in different parts of Tamil Nadu.

More than 100 I-T sleuths started the raids early on Monday morning at 32 different locations across the state.
It was done after gathering inputs regarding largescale income tax evasion by these persons and group.
Natham Viswanathan’s Chennai and Dindigul residences, Kirtilal Jain’s shop at Abhiramapuram, his residence in Coimbatore, office of the medical college in KK Nagar and the institution in Maduravoyil and several other locations have been raided by the sleuths.
I-T sources said incriminating documents suggesting largescale tax evasion have been seized during the day-long raids.
The search by the income tax sleuths that began in the morning continued till late in the evening. The original extent of tax evasion could be ascertained only after scrutiny of the seized documents.
Sources said huge amounts of unaccounted cash, jewellery and property documents have been seized during the raids. I-T department carried out the raids after initial survey of these groups and getting prima facie evidence regarding tax evasion.
