DTNEXT Effect: ‘Big ticket’ fraud under scanner
Southern Railway (SR) has launched a probe into the ticket scam unearthed recently. A week after DTNext broke a three-part investigative report exposing a massive scam in the unreserved ticket booking offices in MMC and Egmore.

Chennai
Divisional railway manager (DRM) Anupam Sharma on Monday said they were investigating the matter. Responding to a specific query on SRMU divisional president Sarangapani being in the thick of the ticketing scam, Sharma said, “We are investigating the matter. Actions will follow.” However, he refused to reveal details of the investigation at this juncture.
Meanwhile, it has been reliably learnt that a deputy chief commercial manager and chief commercial inspector had conducted inquiries with booking clerks twice last week. The commercial department is also understood to have run background checks on booking clerks and the duration of their stay at the two stations, especially MMC, the nerve centre of the scam.
Reliable sources said that a couple of booking clerks, who have been staying at MMC for over a decade and half after briefly staying away from there for a few months, have now voluntarily taken a transfer to another booking office, reportedly in the wake of the expose.
