    Man held for stealing gold worth Rs 2.5 cr

    The city police have detained a man in connection with the Rs 2.5 crore-gold heist from a jewellery shop in Thirumangalam on Tuesday.

    Police sources identified the man as Bosco John Alexander, a man with criminal history. Some portion of gold has been recovered and is being verified with the jewellery shop employees, sources added. Burglars had broken into AKS Jewellery located on II Avenue, Anna Nagar West and stole nearly 10 kg of gold and silver jewellery and Rs 6 lakh in cash. The suspects had broken the terrace exit lid and used a ladder, which was kept inside, to gain entry into store. The owners of shop — Sivasankaran and Ayyapan — found their shop burgled on Tuesday morning. The police noted that the hard disk for the CCTV camera was also stolen.
