The incident happened around 1 am on Saturday when S Mohammed Sameer (21) of Muthialpet was waiting near Loyola College for his friends, who were coming from a movie theatre in Royapettah.

Three men on a bike approached Sameer and tried to snatch his phone and chain. When he refused to part with the chain, the trio allegedly attacked and snatched it. However, the passers-by rushed to Sameer’s rescue and managed to secure two of them and hand them over to Nungambakkam police.

During the interrogation, it was found out that both of them were juveniles and they were sent to observation home. A hunt has been launched to nab the third accused.

Meanwhile, Valasaravakkam police have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with several burglaries in different parts of the city and seized jewels weighing about 40 sovereigns from him.
