Chennai
A 30-year-old man was arrested for hurling a petrol bomb at an auditor’s house in Triplicane to stop his marriage, on Saturday.
The accused is the brother-in-law of the woman whose marriage was fixed with the auditor, police said. Abdul Khader (28) of Lutheran Street, an auditor at a private firm, was woken up by a loud sound outside his house around 4.45 am on Saturday. When he stepped out, he found the window screens at the facade of the house on fire and the glass pieces shattered. Following alert, a police team from Anna Salai station rushed to the spot. The team found that the fire was caused by a petrol bomb that was hurled at the house. After going through CCTV footage in the locality, police found a man moving in a suspicious manner. Abdul Khader identified the person as Mudhasir (30), husband of his fiancée’s sister.
Abdul Khader told police that Mudhasir did not like his sister-in-law getting married to him – the marriage is scheduled on Sunday. “He made several attempts to foil the wedding,” police quoted Abdul Khader saying. Police secured Mudhasir and remanded him in judicial custody. “As none of his tricks worked, he resorted to attempts to scare the groom,” added the investigation officer.
