Man arrested for assaulting policeman in Kodungaiyur

CHENNAI: Police on Wednesday arrested a man, who allegedly attacked a police constable, in an inebriated condition near Kodungaiyur, when the policeman went to issue court summons to a person.

Police sources said that the incident happened on Iyappan Koil Street, R V Nagar in Kodungayur on Tuesday night, around 7 pm.

Police constable, Lakshmanan (31) attached to the law-and-order wing of Kodungaiyur police had gone to the area to issue the summons to a witness in connection with a case.

While he was waiting outside the house, a drunk man had hurled abuses at the policeman. The policeman had asked him to leave the place after which the drunk man began assaulting the policeman. The drunk man then allegedly took a wooden log nearby and attacked the policeman with it, injuring him.

Based on Lakshmanan’s complaint, police arrested Satish Kumar of Kodungayur. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded him in judicial custody.
