Joy Crizildaa- Cut out for celeb styling

When Joy Crizildaa came to Chennai to pursue a visual communications course, little did she know that she would end up becoming one of the busiest costume designers and celebrity stylists in Kollywood. She is known for her work in films like Jilla, Darling and is now working on Bruce Lee 2.

Working as Vijay’s costume designer in Jilla was a dream come true for Joy. “I am an ardent fan of Vijay sir since my childhood and my association with him has come a long way. I am his personal costume designer and have designed his costumes for award ceremonies. He is great fun to work with and is immensely creative. I have also worked with GV Prakash in Darling, Anirudh in Chance Illa single and Boost anthem for World cup.” 

She puts forth that designing costumes for films and styling celebs actually requires a lot of research. “For films, one has to understand the script, characters, and then the budget of the film. While styling celebs, the personality of the celeb and the occasion is an important consideration,” she says. On being asked whether she always wanted to be a designer she replies, “I wanted to become a director. I worked in a media house as an assistant director and realised I had a knack for costume designing. Then I took up fashion designing in Bengaluru and after that things fell in place. I was offered my first film project Rajathandiram through my friends.” The rest as they say, is history!
