Turkish Kilim: They are made of wool, hand-crafted, and have made a comeback in the design scene over the past decade. They are found in bright bold patterns. Deep reds and navy blues dominate most kilims. They look fabulous on a wooden floor. Kilims are attention seekers, so keep your furniture minimal and neutral so you draw attention to the beauty on your floor.

Shaggy Carpet: Made popular in the 1970s, shag was available only in earth tones. Reintroduced in the 2000s, these carpets have gone mainstream thanks to its plush textural look. These are ideal for private spaces like bedrooms and family rooms, as their thick texture hides flaws and is great for lounging. Maintenance is key, and regular vacuuming is a must.

Silk Carpet: A timeless, elegant and expensive variant is the silk carpet. These are like pieces of art, with intricate workmanship and designs. The silk carpet is a beautiful investment, much like art. Available in muted colours, these work in pretty much any setting, traditional or modern. Each carpet is an amalgamation of so many colours, so it works in almost any scheme. You can even frame the carpet and use it as a piece of artwork for your walls!

Patterned Carpet: This carpet is bold, and used by designers to add drama to spaces. The boldness of large-scale geometric patterns can be played up or played down depending on contrast desired. Pick patterns with neutral colours, so there is not too much of a contrast. This really adds an element of sophistication.

Natural carpet: These are made of natural fibres like sisal, coir and jute. The natural fibres are a great alternative for giving a space a casual, coastal vibe. They work well in beach houses, resorts and holiday homes as they are inexpensive and require least maintenance. They give a very muted look, so you can add bright colour furniture.
