Tell us about the new collection

It is called Butterfly Effect. The AW 16 collection is inspired by the free spiritedness and the colours of butterfly and foliage that metaphorically defines the soul of a gypsy. Various forms of butterflies inspire the prints and embroideries of this luxury pret’ line with a retro feel to it. The butterfly effect further turns more edgy with the sharp ikats and jamdani weaves from Phulia and also the monochromatic prints in stark red and black and beige and black. The collection comprises of shirt dresses, maxis, jumpsuits, cocktail dresses, gown, crop tops, palazzos, skirts, lehengas and saris.

Where do you seek inspiration for your designs?

For me personally, it is usually based on my yearning or things which I want to do but can’t. For instance, I want to live the free-spirited life of a butterfly but I can’t. So I like to bring my longing and desires to my designs.

You guys have been bringing your latest collection to Chennai regularly. Is it due to a great response from the clientele here?

Absolutely. People in Chennai value fashion and understand textiles very well. We always feel it the city is strongly rooted in tradition and yet, it has a contemporary mind-set. As a result, the idea of classic with a certain edginess (which is our style) works well here.
