Fashion Fundamentals: Stylish yet minimalist look for Keerthy

I had worked with Bakkiyaraj Kannan, the director of Remo during my stint with the team of the film Raja Rani in 2013. I had worked on Nayantara’s look in it and Kannan was assisting Atlee for this film. He was aware about my body of work and approached me to design for Keerthy Suresh in Remo last year.

Till date Keerthy has played mostly rural characters. In this film she will be playing an urban medical student, interning with a hospital. The brief given to me was she plays a likeable character, who one will fall in love with immediately. Based on this idea I decided to dress up Keerthy in stylish but minimalist get-up. She will be sporting simple kurta-chudidars with detailing on cuffs and collars and complete the look with cotton dupattas. You will see her wearing her white doctor’s coat over this ensemble quite a lot in the film. For the hospital scenes, we have stuck to steel, grey, blue and other such tones and absolute non-glamourous look.

Keerthy will also be seen in long cotton skirts paired with kurtis and T-shirts. It is something most girls would relate to. It is casual yet has a certain dressy appeal. She also drapes stoles with this ensemble.

For the romantic numbers, we have stuck to dresses in peaches, pinks, reds, yellow and other bright shades that are connotative of love and happiness. She will be seen sporting some make-up in these songs and wearing very pretty dresses.

It was a very interesting project for me as it is not every day that I take up film assignments. But when I do, I realise there are so many aspects to it. You have to bear the script, character, his or her typical traits, director’s vision, actor’s needs and so many other things in your mind. But at the same time it is this challenge that drives me to take up designing in movies. I am looking forward to the feedback on Keerthy’s look in Remo!
