Aishwaryaa trolled for performance at UN
Aishwaryaa R Dhanush’s Bharatanatyam performance at the United Nations on International Women’s Day (March 8) is attracting a lot of unsavoury comments on social media.

Chennai
Dance experts apart, even regular fans have come down heavily on the performance, with many calling it ‘pathetic’, and ‘shocking’. Some have even accused her of nepotism, alleging that she got a chance to perform at the UN only because she was a celebrity and Rajinikanth’s daughter. While it’s not clear on what theme Aishwaryaa performed, twitterati criticised her moves as anything but Bharatanatyam. It is reported that she began her performance to the keerthanai Bho Sambho, in honour of Lord Shiva. The filmmaker-dancer concluded her performance with MS Subbulakshmi’s iconic song Maithreem Bhajata.
Renowned danseuse Anita Ratnam was the first one to criticise Aishwaryaa even before her performance. “Quasi Bharatanatyam dancer Aishwaryaa Rajnikanth invited to dance on Women’s Day at United Nations? Abysmal selection!” she wrote on Twitter after the announcement. Later, she followed it with another tweet, this time with a video of Aishwaryaa’s performance, captioning it, “The pathetic state of Bharatanatyam at the UN.” Soon it went viral and gave way to a lot of internet trolls. She also posted a statement on her Facebook page rubbishing a news story which allegedly claimed that she choreographed Aishwaryaa’s stage show at the UN.
