Social media sensations or undiscovered talent?

We speak to actors and filmmakers from tinseltown about what is it that really makes them so endearing to the TN audience.

People from Tamil Nadu have always accepted and shown their love for artistes from other states. Also, be it Sheril from Jimikki Kammal or Priya Varrier from Oru Adaar Love , let's give them some credit. These girls did a really good job. Their dance and expressions were endearing. Now, I am looking forward to Oru Adaar Love to see how good an actor Priya is. If she carries herself well in the film, I am sure she will go places. It all boils down to the fact that while social media can give you overnight fame, it is hard work and talent that will help one sustain it. 

In age of social media, people easily get noticed. While there is a bit of luck involved, nothing is possible without talent. Also, I don't quite agree to the fact that Tamil audiences have this fancy for Malayalam actors. It's not just here, Sheril and Priya struck a chord with people across the country. Their videos have been shared by netizens up north as much as they have been here.

Any content that garners the attention of the youngsters aged between 18 and 22 will definitely trend. In fact, even before the release of my film, OKOK , different versions of my song Venam Macha Venam were trending on social media. Also, in Kerala, college students are coming up with a lot of music videos, and innovative content that appeal to the wider section of audience.

To be very honest, I believe that there is something unique about them. Their expressions, dance and their screen presence is so natural. Also, Kerala girls have a certain charm thanks to their characteristic big eyes. Having said that, luck plays a major role when it comes to these sensations. Imagine a 30 second video clip making you this famous, while many others, who may be as talented if not more, are struggling in life. 

I think we all have this inherent tendency to appreciate anything and everything that's from another land. Not just actors or celebrities, even in school or college, we always have a fascination for girls from other sections or departments. We go out of the way to befriend them. So, I feel it is but natural that these girls are being accepted widely.
