Talking about the video, Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli says, “The minute I read the script, I agreed to be on board as it was simple and to the point. Rather than focusing on bigger issues like #MeToo and others, this video talks about how gender equality works only if all of us stay together. It happens only if a girl supports another girl, without blaming the opposite gender. The script is well written.”

Ask her about how she got into project, she says, “Director Ranjith Baboo Sukumaran approached me with a script saying he has to convey the thoughts about gender equality on Women’s Day. I loved the narrative and immediately agreed to be a part of the project. I did give him some inputs to make the story line more impactful.”

The Maya actress adds, “In fact, other members of Unhappy Women’s Day are coming up with a lot of videos this month. And I can vouch that all of them would be interesting. I am a part of only this video and not anything else.”

Ask her if it is a deliberate decision to be a part of videos/films that talk about women empowerment or feminism. “Only audience who watch my films come up with such kind of ideas. Even when I decided to act in the short film, Lakshmi, (which went viral on social media), both the director and I never thought that the content of the film had something to do with gender equality or feminism. We made a film that had a strong woman character, and I felt that it’s just a good story. I always want to be a part of projects that has a message.”

On the work front, the actress has completed shooting for director Vasanth’s Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum. She also has a film titled Pakshi directed by Jagadeesan Subu of Sigai fame.
