Commemorating World Environment Day that falls on June 5, we list a few interesting events that are happening across the city

Teach them young
Children’s author Shyamala Shanmugasundaram will be hosting a storytelling session that is designed to introduce children to trees, nature and the like through stories and book reading. To be held at JustBooks Anna Nagar, from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm, the event emphasises the importance of reducing waste and helps children to have a positive inclination towards the environment. Each participant can also take home a book based on environment.
Let’s talk water conservation
The American Centre, U.S. Consulate General Chennai, and United States-India Educational Foundation are jointly organising a talk in the city. Dr Zachary Burt, a postdoctoral fellow from Columbia University will talk about “Innovative Thinking and Interdisciplinary Research: Wicked Problems and Creative Solutions for Water and Sanitation from Around the World’. The event will be held at US Consulate General, Gemini Circle from 3 to 4.30 pm.
Connecting people with nature
To encourage awareness and action for the protection of our environment, Thuvakkam, a local NGO, is organising Eco Week Celebration (June 2-9) with this year’s theme ‘Beat plastic pollution’. You can be a part of their various upcoming events including waste management at Mootaikaranchavadi School (June 6), seed ball trekking at Thirisulam, Mount (June 7) and tree maintenance at Valluvar Kottam (June 9).
Reduce, reuse, recycle
Ezone India is helping Chennaiites’ set up an eco club at various places in the city. Titled Recycle, through this initiative you can exchange your old books, newspapers and magazines and in exchange, you can take home new pencils made of recycled papers. For details, contact 9940142349.
