It’s celebration time for music lovers
Fête de la Musique, also known as World Music Day, is an annual music festival which originated in France in the year 1981. Today, it is celebrated worldwide on the same day in 460 cities - 110 countries.

Chennai
The eighth edition of the three-day festival in Chennai is organised by Alliance Francaise at the Edouard Michelin Auditorium. “Fête de la Musique has always been one of these ‘you cannot tend to miss this’ kind of music festivals in Chennai.
For years, there have been amazing bands performing at the festival. It is a platform with a lot of versatility to it. There are people all over the world attending gigs and it’s pretty cool,” said Samuel from the band Big Sam.
On the first day (June 21), there will be a concert by Big Sam, an acoustic-electro indie folk/pop band, The Non Violinist Project, a blend of musicians from diverse musical backgrounds and Nadisha Thomas, a singing member of an internationally recognised choir in Chennai called The Madras Musical Association (MMA).
Excited about her performance in the city, Nadisha says, “It’s overwhelming to be able to perform for this - it’s been a silent dream of mine for years. It’s great to know that there will be an audience that is actually listening to you and will appreciate what you are showcasing.”
On June 22, students from KM Music Conservatory will present a musical concert. The musical programme will be instrumental performances of various genres including western, pop and fusion of Indian music.
On the last day, June 24, Alliance Française of Madras students will be performing in Tamil, English, and French language. Samuel adds, “When you’re a local artist, there are certain places (locally) that you’d want to perform. I’m super grateful to be part of this festival.
This stage is a great platform for bands and artists like us. It’s one of those places where you can come and witness different genres and styles of music from a particular city.”
