One more UPA defence deal on BJP’s radar
A day after the Defence Ministry made it clear that it was not opening any inquiry into the purchase of two fleet tankers from Italy at the cost of Rs 1,900 crore, the BJP on Saturday indicated that the issue would be taken up through Parliamentary route.

This is the second deal concluded during the previous UPA regime, which has come under clouds. The AgustaWestland deal overshadowed the recently-concluded Budget Session of Parliament.
As the issue of procurement of fleet tanker ships for the Indian Navy hots up, BJP Lok Sabha MP Kirit Somaiya said he would knock the doors of Public Accounts Committee of the House to raise the issue since it was the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, who for the first time, had flagged the matter of handing over undue favour to a foreign vendor (Fincantieri, Italy) in procurement of fleet tankers.
