Private security guard stabbed to death while watching football match

CHENNAI: A previous enmity led to the murder of a private security guard while he was watching a local football match near Pallavaram on Sunday evening.
Ranjith Kumar (48) of Pammal Pasumpon Nagar near Pallavaram was enjoying his weekly holiday by watching a local football match close to his home. A young man appeared out of the blue and started slashing Ranjith's neck multiple times.
Bystanders immediately sprang into action and rescued Ranjith, while a few apprehended the assailant. Ranjith was rushed to Tambaram GH via the 108 ambulance service, where he unfortunately succumbed without responding to the treatment.
The assailant was beaten up by the enraged public and was handed over to the police. He was identified as Joshua (29), also known as Ajith Kumar. He is currently receiving treatment for the injuries sustained at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) and has been formally arrested and under police custody after the Shankar Nagar police registered a murder case.
Preliminary probe revealed Ranjith was against the illicit relationship Joshua had with a woman relative. Ranjith had reportedly thrashed Joshua and expelled him from the family, causing friction between the two. Police suspect the murder was a revenge for the conflict. Investigation into the exact circumstances is under way.
